Sunday January 12, 2020

Welcome & Good afternoon, Sunday, January 12, 2020.

I hope you have enjoyed reading your Bible to know God. I'm sure you noted many of the attributes of God as you read this week. The attributes are in three groups of either Genuine, Great or Good. We consider that the most high God whose name is Jehovah is Great in that He is Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent.

(For daily reading assignments click the link at the bottom of this post)
As you read the scriptures you will be able to see that God is True, Holy, Just and Loving as He deals with his children. When you read and ponder how The LORD dealt with Abram, Abraham, and Isaac in giving of the covenant you can determine that he is gracious and merciful. The purpose of the believer, both Old and New Testament, is to challenge unbelievers to trust God for salvation and restoration.

We also are made aware of the fact that Almighty God hates sin.  The Bible records the lifestyle of believing and unbelieving mankind and makes plain the wage of sin is death. God is Immutable in that He does not change. He is Just.

I challenge you to set aside some special time to read again the Sermon on The Mount starting at Matthew 5. Strive to sense what Jesus is saying to his disciples then and contemplate how it should impact your lifestyle today.  The timing indicates that Matthew may not have been with the other disciples because he was called later in chapter 9.

Have you been called? Are you a disciple of The Lord Jesus Christ? Have you experienced a personal encounter with God as did the leper and the centurion in chapter 8? Take note of verse 8:16-17 and determine if your sinful, sick and infirmed condition needs to be cured by Jesus. Read the promises given today at Matthew 9:1-17 and choose to receive the gift of eternal life for He knows your thoughts. Read my personal testimony at the blog site.

This week you will be reading Genesis 28:1-38:30; Matthew 9:18-13:23; Psalms 11:1-17:15 and Proverbs 3:11-35.  The daily readings are posted at the blog site and you may read from your Bible each day or use the One Year Bible at the blog site.

PLEASE don't read ahead and if you don't read don't catch up. Discipline yourself to stay on schedule. As you read each day allow The Holy Spirit to teach you Truths. Use post-it notes as you read and when or if a question develops, jot it down. Use Bible aids, charts or maps to enhance your understanding.

Use the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance to get the Hebrew or Greek definition of words. Use the Webster 1828 Dictionary to define words. You might look up where is Bethel, what does it mean and how does it impact your life today.  What is a publican or sinner? Who are the Pharisees? When you understand the definition and meaning of words you are more apt to be in harmony with the English of the King James Version of the Bible.

A friend shared this saying several years ago and I suggest you copy it to a printed page and read before and after your daily Bible reading.  " 12 Key Words"  By His law, God shows us the true nature of sin and His perfect righteousness.  In love, He desires to make us holy. So out of mercy, by grace through faith, He provides us with the living hope and a new heart in which He can reveal His glory unto us that our joy may be full for all eternity."
